According to the owner’s manual, the Yamaha TW200 is designed to use “regular unleaded fuel”. If knocking or pinging occurs, the manual recommends using a different brand of fuel, or “premium unleaded fuel”. The TW200 gets an “estimated” 78 miles per gallon. According to Motorcyclist, the TW200 was one of the “Top 5 most fuel efficient motorcycles in 2022”. With it’s 1.8 gallon tank (including reserve), the TW200 has an estimated range of 140.4 miles.
In a recent “real world” test, our 2024 TW200 with about 300 miles on the odometer achieved 57 miles per gallon. Mixed riding conditions included pavement, dirt roads, snow, and trails. Based on these numbers, our TW could travel 102.6 miles on full tank of fuel.
For those who like to like to explore a bit farther from home, there are many possible solutions to deal with range anxiety. Fuel bottles, fuel bags, or RotopaX gas containers, are possible solutions.
Many TW riders find that aftermarket fuel tanks are the simplest and most reliable options for increasing traveling distance. The two tanks below are the most common.
Clarke Gas Tank. 2.7 gallons. 1987- Present. This tank gives the TW200 an “estimated” range of 210.6 miles per tank of unleaded fuel. The “natural” color allows the rider to see the actual amount of fuel remaining in the tank. (153.9 “real world” miles per tank)
IMS Gas Tank. 3.6 gallons. 1987-Present. This tank gives the TW200 and “estimated” range of 280.8 miles per tank of unleaded fuel. (205.2 “real world” miles per tank)
